![]() Anthill OSA Bit of HistoryAnthill OS is the original Build Management Server that started the space when it was released in July of 2001. We developed Anthill OS as a result of build management difficulties that we encountered on a consulting project. Being software developers we wrote a piece of software that would enforce good build management practices and policies rather than creating any more written procedures. The success of Anthill OS was a bit overwhelming. We counted tens of thousands of downloads and hundreds of people on our mailing list very quickly. There was so much interest in the tool that we had to dedicate one full-time person to just handling the mailing list traffic, support requests, feature requests, and all the other activities related to having a successful project. The problem was that it was just a source of additional cost for us; and so we decided to build a commercial version. We figured that if the commercial version covered at least the cost of maintaining itself and the OS version, then if would be successful enough. The commercial version was AnthillPro, and it's been a lot more successful we had ever hoped. DocumentationA manual for Anthill OS is available for download in PDF format.
